Da, nova lična karta koja se izdaje u Srbiji je identičnih dimenzija kao i bilo koje bankovne kartice, halo-kartice i sl. Položaj čipa na kartici je takođe standardizovan, čip fizički, spolja, liči na čip koji se nalazi na bankovnim karticama, ali i na GSM SIMM karticama za mobilne telefone i sl.
Osim fizičke, spoljne, sličnosti, arhitektura čipa se, čini mi se, znatno razlikuje od dostupnih tipova čipova u bankovnim i "halo" karticama.
Kada u nadležnoj Polcijskoj upravi uruče novu Ličnu kartu, u odvojenom kovertu se dobija i username i password koji su potrebni prilikom očitavanja podataka iz čipa, pomoću smart-card readera...

More recent International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) specify a cryptographically signed file format and authentication protocol for storing biometric features (photos of face, fingerprint and/or iris) in ISO 14443 RFID chips.
